Senate Decleration of Sakarya University
The Republic of Turkey has always been a true follower of the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal’s principle: “Peace At Home, Peace In The World”. Believing in the virtue and the importance of international peace, Turkey has also been against the terrorism in every sense and its supporters.
Just like every other country, France has always been perceived as a trusted companion country by Turkey. However, so-called Armenian Genocide bill draft which was assented in the National Assembly of France on May 29th 1998, aroused anxiety and astonishment in Turkey.
This slanderous campaign, which has no historical basis and has been denied on every related platform is indeed a disguise for a terrorist attack. The claims of so-called Armenian Genocide have always been denied by the Turkish Citizens of Armenian origin, and the assent of these claims in the French National Assembly has been an unfortunate incident in regard to companionship between Turkey and France.
It is striking to see that despite having almost ten years of silence on the issue of so-called Armenian Genocide, the issue recently has been made a current debate again. Turkey has overcome the problems caused by the terrorist organization PKK, however, it is noteworthy to realize the attemps of another terrorist organization to bring the issue into the political agenda yet again.
Supporting national and international terrorism has not helped any nation so far, and it never will.
We, as the Senate of Sakarya University, condemn French National Assembly for their assent of unfounded bill draft.
